The Purpose of this Site
There are a mere handful of
Pre-Dreadnought armored
warships which still exist today.
Scattered around the globe,
they are now museum ships,
rusting hulks, or scuba diving
attractions..
They remind us of a relatively short
period of naval history (1860 to 1904) which
was extremely prolific in developing most of the
elements of today's warships. Efficient steam
engines, armored plate (first iron, then steel),
rotating turrets, and torpedo tubes are just a few
of the elements which this era of warship design
produced.

I've visted 3 of those!
Only been to the CSS Hunley
and the Dreadnought USS Texas.
Been On the Constitution "Old Ironsides" Well before the "Pre-Dreadnought"era and to
the Arizona memorial (my great
uncle rests there) and I've
been on the last class of
Dreadnought the Missouri.
I also have been to pay my respects at USS ARIZONA (and Mighty Mo next door), and have been many times on HMS VICTORY - which though no longer seagoing, has been in commission longer than Old Ironsides!
Id love to see a few old ACW Ironclads though!
