Hanriot HD.1

 

The Hanriot HD.1 was a World War I single-seat fighter aircraft, combining clean lines with a light wing loading. Manufactured in France, the HD.1 was supplied to the Belgian and the Italian air forces, and it proved highly successful. It was flown by a number of the famous aces, such as Belgian Willy Coppens and Italians Mario Fucini and Silvio Scaroni.

Wings of Glory: Caproni CA.3

The Caproni Ca.3 was an Italian heavy bomber that saw extensive use against the Central Powers forces. It was a wooden three-engine biplane and one of the most effective bombers of any air force during WWI, heavily armed and deadly with his bombs.

Armies of the Adowa Campaign 1896: The Italian Disaster in Ethiopia

In the late 19th century, the new nation-state of Italy was eager to join her European neighbors in creating an international empire. Italy's eyes turned towards Africa as a source of potential colonies. Most of the continent had already been carved up between the Great Powers but Italy succeeded in securing a foothold in Eritrea on the Red Sea coast, a vassal of the Emperor of Ethiopia. Trade and other links were established with the Ethiopian empire but quarrels regarding the interpretation of a particular clause led to Ethiopian support for uprisings in Eritrea. Italian troops entered northern Ethiopia and captured Adowa, the capital of the Tigray province. Full-scale war broke out and this new Osprey title tracks every development in the battle and the men who fought in it.

First off my thanks to Mack and all the guys who came, I had a great time.

I put on a Demo of "When The Navy Walked" everyone enjoyed the speed
of the game and really liked the concept!

The game was between German invaders verses Italian defenders.
The Italians had two medium Walker Landships, three field guns,
three heavy machine guns, and seven battalions of infantry.

The Germans had one light walker, three battalions of infantry and
the massive capital unit. KLBS Rhineland

I built this monster and as I've said before, I'm half German
so I suffer through that gigantism gene (think Schwerer Gustav)....)

The German player mounter two of his infantry units within the
Rhineland to be dropped off where needed. The other German unit
followed the light walker on the German right flank.
Italians were in morning roll call formation as the Germans landed
and were in a rush trying to deploy to meet the advance.

As it was to turn out the Italians never succeeded to bring their weapons
to bare as they would have wished. The Germans went strait up the center
with the loss of their light walker and a few troops. The Italians however
loss both walkers a field gun all three machine guns and two routed infantry
units. Without enough combat power the Italians withdrew from the field.

WW1 Described In Terms As A Bar Fight

Germany, Austria and Italy are standing together in the middle of
the bar-room, when Serbia bumps into Austria, and spills Austria's
pint.Austria demands Serbia buy it a complete new suit, because
there are splashes on its trouser leg. Germany expresses its
support for Austria's point of view.Britain recommends that
everyone calm down a bit.Serbia points out that it can't afford a
whole suit, but offers to pay for cleaning Austria's trousers.Russia
and Serbia look at Austria. Austria asks Serbia who it's looking at.
Russia suggests that Austria should leave its little brother alone.
Austria inquires as to whose army will assist Russia in compelling
it to do so.Germany appeals to Britain that France has been
looking at it, and that this is sufficiently out of order that Britain
should not intervene.Britain replies that France can look at who it
wants to, that Britain is looking at Germany too, and what is
Germany going to do about it? Germany tells Russia to stop
looking at Austria, or Germany will render Russia incapable of
such action.Britain and France ask Germany whether it's looking
at Belgium. Turkey and Germany go off into a corner and whisper.
When they come back,Turkey makes a show of not looking at
anyone.Germany rolls up its sleeves, looks at France, and
punches Belgium.France and Britain punch Germany. Austria
punches Russia.Germany punches Britain and France with one
hand and Russia with the other. Russia throws a punch at
Germany, but misses and nearly falls over. Japan calls over from
the other side of the room that it's on Britain's side, but stays there.
Italy surprises everyone by punching Austria.Australia punches
Turkey,and gets punched back. There are no hard feelings,
because Britain made Australia do it.France gets thrown through
a plate glass window,but gets back up and carries on fighting.
Russia gets thrown through another one, gets knocked out, suffers
brain damage, and wakes up with a complete personality change.
Italy throws a punch at Austria and misses, but Austria falls over
anyway.Italy raises both fists in the air and runs round the room
chanting.America waits till Germany is about to fall over, then walks
over,waves a fist at Germany while Britain knocks it out, then
pretends it won the fight all by itself. By now all the chairs are
broken, and the big mirror over the bar is shattered.Britain, France
and America agree that Germany threw the first punch,so the
whole thing is Germany's fault.While Germany is still unconscious,
they go through its pockets,steal its wallet, and buy drinks for all
their friends.

Nobody comes out of it looking particularly good.

Great Britain has more experience with aerial combat than any other nation on Earth but has still only been building aerial gunboats for less than a decade. The first British experience with aerial warfare was on Mars during the Gorovaangian War (1878-79), also now referred to as the First War of the Parhoon Sucession. British officers and men, largely from the Royal Artillery, served alongside Parhoonese cloud sailors in Parhoon's small fleet, manning a handful of modern machineguns and field guns hastily lashed to the wooden decks of the Parhoonese screw galleys.

Hanriot HD.1 in Italian Service

The Hanriot HD.1 fighter was a comparative rarity in aviation history: a highly successful, high-performance aircraft that was never adopted by the country that developed it. The HD.1 came along at an awkward moment for a French fighter. It was just too late to compete with the Nieuports that formed the backbone of French fighter aviation in the first years of the war. By the time it appeared, it was eclipsed by the SPAD 7. The SPAD became the standard fighter of the French air force. The French did, however, allow Hanriot to market its new airplane to France’s allies. Belgium bought a modest number, as did the U.S. Navy. But the major user of the HD was Italy.
