The Martian Chronicles

Synopsis

"Based on Ray Bradbury's sweeping sci-fi classic, this 1979 mini-series details the mystery, wonder and horror of humankind's attempts to leave Earth and establish a new culture on Mars. Scientists travel to Mars to study its atmosphere and terrain, and decide that earthlings can dwell safely in this new environment - but some in the group learn that an alien life form might exist beneath the planet's surface. Everyone will eventually learn that the colonization of Mars might not be welcomed by its present inhabitants... and with good reason. This epic television production originally aired in three parts."

  1. Years before my purchase of
    Space 1889, and many before
my re-interest springing from PARROOM STATION and well
    augmented buy the great work
    from Black Hat Miniatures
    in their rules and minis.
    There was "The Martian
    Chronicles".I saw this
    miniseries when it first
    aired in 1979. I then
    purchased the VHS in 1994
and am now ordering the DVD.
I've always liked the ascetic depiction of Bradbury's Martians. Also lets face
it their sand ships are just
    neat as all get out...)

Here are a few ideas I'm kicking around:

    Bradbury's Martians are the
    first (pure strain) Martians.
    They have inhabited Mars form
    the beginning. Their
    civilization developed well
before we evolved (a side line here: Bradbury's Martians may
have had something to do with
that evolution) Through war and natural disaster their
    civilization fell, well before
    the Cephalods arrived from
elsewhere. The Cephalods first created a servitor race from
    lower Martian life forms that
    would later become the Giant
    Tribal Martians. The Cephalods
    were not satisfied with their
creation and by capturing a few pure strain Martians and using
that DNA as a basis for what
    became the Imperial Martians.

    The pure strain Martians live
very much on the edge of
    other Martian societies, to
    the Tribal Martians they are
seen as evil spirits, ghosts. demons and by some as
gods and by others as watchers
    for the gods.The Imperial
Martians see them in a wide
    variety of ways defendant
upon their city states' religion and frequency of contact
    with the pure strains.Depending
    on these criteria the
pure strains can be seen as
    good bad or indifferent and
    from highly respected to
    scarcely believed to exist at
    all.

The pure strain Martians stealth ability is one of their
great assets if they don't wish
to be seen they usually are not.
They tend not to interfere with
    the actions of others unless
    some taboo (known usually only
    to themselves) is violated.

    There was

    "The Martian Chronicles"

    Interesting premise on the
    Bradbury Martians as pure
    strains. Knowing you this is
very close to book form now...)

I've seen it a few times, not bad as miniseries go.
