Colonial inspiration! By Wargaming Miscellany

Colonial inspiration!
I have been fumbling about for some inspiration for my first tabletop battle in some time ... and then I came across some pictures that I had used in a blog entry that I wrote quite some time ago.

As I said to Bob, I think I checked the copy my school library in the early 70s
more times than I can remember!

Armies of the Adowa Campaign 1896: The Italian Disaster in Ethiopia

In the late 19th century, the new nation-state of Italy was eager to join her European neighbors in creating an international empire. Italy's eyes turned towards Africa as a source of potential colonies. Most of the continent had already been carved up between the Great Powers but Italy succeeded in securing a foothold in Eritrea on the Red Sea coast, a vassal of the Emperor of Ethiopia. Trade and other links were established with the Ethiopian empire but quarrels regarding the interpretation of a particular clause led to Ethiopian support for uprisings in Eritrea. Italian troops entered northern Ethiopia and captured Adowa, the capital of the Tigray province. Full-scale war broke out and this new Osprey title tracks every development in the battle and the men who fought in it.

Another splendid tome by Man At Arms!

RIP Larry Brom

RIP Larry Brom
I read this evening on the Tiny Metal Men  blog the sad news that Larry Brom recently passed suddenly from a heart attack.

An former US Marine, Larry was the author of the very popular The Sword and The Flame rule set, amongst many others.  He had a wide reaching impact on the community and will be sorely missed.

British Firing Line w/ Blast Guns

British Firing Line w/ Blast Guns by Highlander Studios.
Five unpainted 15mm British Soldiers for use with any
Victorian or Victorian science fiction setting.

Set includes one each of five poses. I picked up 18 packs,
now just need some suitable officers and NCOs, and these
will be the basis for my Imperial Guard Praetorians in one
setting and also useful for VSF.
